History of the Game - Stair an Cluiche
Camogie is the female version of the GAA Sport hurling.
The game of hurling is unique to Ireland and is one of the
fastest field games in the world. It has always been a huge
part of our culture and heritage and is our national sport.
Hurling and camogie are very skillful games.

Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael is the first organisation to
have promoted a Gaelic game for females - Camogie, akin to
hurling. Founded in 1904, today it has the largest number
of females, in excess of 150,000, participating in Ireland
in a field game. Its membership includes many male colleagues
who participate in such areas as administration, coaching
and refereeing.

Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael embraces all of Ireland and
its units abroad in England, Scotland, Wales the United States,
Australia and many parts of Europe. All age-groups are provided
for, through our Central, Provincial, County, Club, Primary
Schools, Second Level Colleges and Third Level Colleges structures.

Twelve All-Ireland competitions are held annually and countless
others are organised under the auspices of the County Boards,
Provincial Councils and Schools and Colleges Councils. Cumann
Camogaiochta initiated Development, Coaching, Administration
and Referee programmes for Gaelic games.

Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael is a community, family, health
and safety orientated organisation. The Cumann is very conscious
of the wealth of its Gaelic heritage and of the opportunity
to share that heritage and culture, while embracing other
heritages and cultures, in the Ireland of today.
